1/18 Travel Trips and Tips Luncheon

SAVE THE DATE! Please plan on joining us for a New Year Travel Trips and Tips luncheon sponsored by the SAS Puxi PTSA on Wed. 1/18/17 from 11 to 1 pm. Come listen and learn about exciting destinations within China and around Asia from travel experts. Topics include Northern Yunnan, covering travel destinations between Kunming, Benzilan and the Tea Horse Road, Bhutan, New Zealand, Thailand, Mongolia/Outer Mongolia, Indonesia/Bali and specialty tours in and around Shanghai.

Join Health Coach & Food Educator Kimberly Ashton for an inspiring talk to kick start your new year in the right direction! Kimberly will be covering the latest trends, diet options, some myths with dieting, dangers of dieting and how to reduce your toxic load to overcome weight management and actually GET HEALTHIER in Shanghai. For those new to health & wellness this is an opportunity not to be missed and a wonderful time to take proactive steps for 2017, the time is now! Join us!

New PTSA Announcements

School-Wide PTSA Events:

​Holiday Cookie Exchange and Coffee.  December 5th 10:00 – 12:00 Please join us in swapping our favorite cookie recipes, just in time for the holidays!  Bring 3 dozen of one of your favorite recipes; cookies, cakes or muffin and leave with an assortment from your fellow SAS foodies!  Drop off 10-11. 11-12 swap!  Coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be provided by Café Du Village.  Email ptsa.puxi@saschina.com for details and to be added to our wechat group.

Elementary School Updates:

A warm and heartfelt Thank You to the many students and families who have contributed toward the Giving Tree charity drive!  Through your generosity, we have managed to fill nearly 700 bags for the migrant students at Merit Primary School, providing winter clothing, school supplies, toys and books. Additionally, we have been able to purchase a gift for their school, based on the school’s stated needs:  balls, jump ropes, hula hoops and other PE/Playground equipment, blocks for PreK and Kindergarten, and an assortment of percussion hand instruments.  The students and teachers of Merit Primary School will certainly be thrilled with these additions!

ES students will help pack the bags on November 21 & 22. Contact your grade rep if you are able to assist for a time on either of these two dates.     SAS 5th graders will deliver the bags to the school on Nov 29.

PTSA Announcements for the Week of Nov 7, 2016

International Fair Update:

International Fair parent Volunteers: Please join us Thursday, Nov 10 9am-11am, Upper Cafeteria at our THANK YOU Coffee. Featuring Cinnamon Rolls and Raffle Prizes! Please RSVP to PTSA.Puxi@saschina.org.

At the GM meeting on October 26, we covered the following:

1) International Fair summary and financial overview by IF Chair, Lucy Young. Despite some big changes this year (i.e. cash acceptance, private attendance), we had a more diverse cultural food offering and a more relaxed atmosphere for attendees and volunteers alike. Thank you to all who participated in this annual fundraiser! Net income from the Fair was RMB 412,215.

2) The overall 2016-17 operating budget of RMB 711,820 was reviewed and approved. Details will be posted soon or request via email ptsa.puxi@saschina.org.

3) Duties as PTSA President were transitioned to Iris Hsu, who was board-appointed based on several criteria. Jodi Montgomery who has been President for 2 years and on the PTSA board for 5, is returning home with her family to Minnesota in December. Our deepest gratitude to you, Jodi!

School-Wide PTSA Events:

Fabric Market Trip.  Monday, November 14th, 2016.  Complimentary bus leaves SAS at 9:00 am, returns at 3:00 pm.  Join us, either to get a feel of the market or to get something custom made.

Winter Bazaar.  November 16th, 11:00 – 4:00.  Many vendors will be here, on campus, to help you prepare for the holidays!  Find local handmade gifts, unique jewelry, clothing, carpets, furniture, silver and enjoy lunch from Ginger or an Indonesian snack from Balini & Bali Bistro!  This event is open to our neighbors so please share this with all your friends!

The 22nd International Fair Oct 15, 2016 11am – 4pm

The 22nd International Fair on October 15, is just around the corner!.  Pre-Sale Week:  October 10-13th – Get your Guest Wristbands, discounted Game Tickets and Raffle!  Entry is free for SAS ID holders, but event is not open to the general public.

Only week to get your guest wristbands is October 10-13!  ES Lobby from 7:45AM -9:45AM, Eagle Shop – 10:00-2:30PM and from 11:30AM-1:30PM, in front of the MS/HS Cafeteria.   Each SAS ID holder is limited to 2 wristbands.    Each wristband is RMB20.  There will be no entry to anyone without an SAS ID or a guest wristband.  Guest wristbands will not be available at the doors.

Cash will be accepted in all areas except the HS Game Field.  Game Tickets  will be on sale during Pre-Sale week, Oct 10-13 for RMB50 (day of RMB80).

International Fair Updates:

The 22nd International Fair is coming on October 15! The International Fair is a PTSA, parent organized and operated annual fair bringing the school community together for a day of eating, games, music, shopping and more!

The International Fair is free entry to all SAS ID Holders and will not be open to the General Public. Guests may be invited by picking up a Friends & Family wristband for RMB 20. Stay tuned for more details when these go on sale!

IF Entertainment:

Middle School PTSA

MS student social supported by PTSA (Grade 7 parents lead the support efforts). Parents are encouraged to sponsor afternoon snacks and provide chaperon support @ 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. on September 9.

 Thanks to our Grade 8 reps Christine Lo and Susan Thomas’s leadership, we had a great first MS parent social last Friday in the Upper Cafeteria. Over 100 participants gathered for a rewarding 2 hours, around 8 topics/tables, each hosted by a MS parent volunteer. Everyone was both happy to reconnect after the summer holiday as well as to exchange news of their summer experiences, particularly relating to kids’ summer camps.
