We’re looking forward to sharing our music, our stories, and our journey in band with you at our final 5th grade band concert on June 2nd. We’ve come quite a long way since the “hot cross buns” and “twinkle twinkle” days. Please read ahead for all of the details and information about the show.
All students bring their instruments and music to school on rehearsal days. Please remind your child of these rehearsals because they are not a part of their normal schedule.
Monday, May 30th: Rehearsal
Tuesday, May 31st: Rehearsal
Thursday, June 2nd
Students bring their concert attire (long sleeve white dress shirt, black dress pants/skirt, black dress shoes and black socks), instrument, and music to school.
Students should remain at school until the end of the concert so that the band members can rehearse, eat dinner, and socialize together.
Students will purchase dinner with their ID cards (their “lunch cards”).
Students should also bring a good book or an iPad/headphones with them in their backpacks so that they can keep entertained while we wait backstage before the show.
Parents, you can head to the PAC seating area when you arrive. Please be sure to bring your printed or e-ticket.
The performance will start at 6pm and is expected to end at 7:30pm.
You can pick up your children in the lobby area of the PAC after the show. There will be ASA-routed buses provided after the concert for all students and audience members. The route information is attached to this email.
Tickets are free but are needed to enter the seating area and they cannot be acquired at the door. You must order them online at the following website: http://pudong-performing-arts.ticketleap.com/yearbook-bandconcert/
Please let me know if you have any questions.

We are so excited to host Movie Night this Friday, May 13th, from 2:30-4:30. The 5th Grade Service Group has worked hard organizing the event, and we can’t wait to share how much money we raised to help fight hunger in Syria.
Parents, we do need you to be aware of one fact. The ASA bus your child will be taking home on Friday is the Middle School ASA bus, so the stop may or may not be different from what you are used to. Therefore, please recheck the bus and the stop you selected to ensure you are aware of where your child will be getting off. Please make arrangements for an adult to be there to pick your child up. Should you have any questions or concerns, please email 5th grade teacher, Matt Kopacka, at email@example.com . The bus list is attached for your convenience.
We thank you for your support in this wonderful fundraising event. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Just a quick reminder that MUN tryouts for middle school will take place this Thursday at 11:30am. Fifth grade students were invited for the first time last year, a measure that proved to be a wonderful success. Many of our fifth graders attended assemblies in Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, and our very own SHASMUN here in Shanghai.
Requirements: Students must deliver a one-minute address to a small panel of teachers and students about a topic/issue they feel passionate about and believe is worthy of global recognition. Students are encouraged to memorize their short remarks but may use note cards if necessary.
Hello parents and families. We are heading home now. We are hoping to arrive in Jinqiao between 3:00 and 3:30. See you soon!
Cloudy skies couldn’t do a thing to dampen the spirits of these 5th graders today. All three activity groups went on as planned. There were leaps of faith made, culinary masterpieces created, and a garden started at a temple. We finished the night back together singing songs, dancing, and playing games. It was an incredible day.
Please check the photo stream for hundreds of great pictures.
Please check the blog tomorrow, early afternoon. We’ll send an update here to let you know if we are still arriving on time. Thanks for all your support. See you soon!
Oh what a day!
Where do I begin? Well, students had a blast! From sing-a-longs to Amazing Race challenges, kids could be seen working together, bonding, and having some great laughs.
Our first activity here in Suzhou was the Amazing Race. Kids had two hours to complete some incredible tasks. Embroidery, singing, and trying on some really cool outfits were a few of the challenges.
After dinner, we enjoyed a bonfire, complete with s’mores and campfire songs.
Kids are all tucked in and sleeping soundly, dreaming about day 2 activities! Goodnight Shanghai and sweet dreams. 🙂
PS – Please check out the photo stream for some of the day pictures.
Hello parents. Sorry for the missed check in time. We are having an incredible time, but we are running behind schedule. Students have just sat down to dinner, and we will call after. Calls will come between 7:30 and 8:00PM. Thanks for your understanding.
