Dear 9th and 10th grade Students and Parents,

A tradition at Shanghai American School (and many international schools around the world) is to extend learning for a week each year outside of the regular classroom walls.  At SAS, we call this 9th and 10th grade experience China Alive!

Students are expected to participate in one of the trips, which are designed to be fun, challenging, and educational in that they are aligned with our SAS EAGLES: Empowered, Adaptable, Global-Minded, Literate, Ethical, and Skilled Enquirers.

In connection with the Real Life Learning initiative, we will be separating the 9th and 10th grade, with the 9th grade focus being on connecting the Asian History curriculum with the China Alive trips, whereas the 10th grade trips will follow the traditional trip format.  To facilitate this, each of the 9th grade trips will not only have a trip leader, but will also have a curricular leader.

Trip Pricing

Final price will be published on the website when the flight bookings are confirmed.  Our trips are specially designed as educational trips, very different from the touristy trips, so prices will generally be higher.

Sign-ups

It will be done online through Powerschool, and is on the first-come, first-served basis.  Grade 9 and 10 sign-ups are separated.

Health Information for China Alive! Trips

A licensed nurse accompanies most of the China Alive trips.  This is to provide immediate first aid, treat minor injuries and ailments, liaise with parents and school administrators, and arrange local hospital care in cases of serious injury or illness.  If there is important/relevant health information, email or speak to the HS nurse, Deborah Pauly, prior to signing up for the trip at Deborah.Pauly@saschina.org or by phone on 6221 1445 ext.3359.  This information is treated in confidence.
