Welcome to my updated blog!  Hello, my name is Mayuko Perkins.  As you may have guessed from my name, I am originally from Japan, but I have called Philadelphia my home for the past 10 years and now Shanghai!  I will be teaching 2nd and 4th Grade EAL (English as an Additional Language) this year.  I am beyond thrilled!

Before joining Shanghai American School, I taught ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) in Grades 5 through 6 at a public charter school in the heart of Philadelphia Chinatown in the United States.  My role included the school’s ESOL coordinator.  I hold a BA in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) from Bethel University in Minnesota, as well as MS. Ed in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Is your head spinning with all the acronyms?

Above is the picture of my family in the United States.   This was taken at the family reunion in North Carolina this summer!  We now have 4 nieces and nephews under the age of 3.  My wall is filled with their pictures, and there is more to come!

If you are in my EAL Plus class, please click on the EAL PLUS tab at the top of this page.  All blog entries related to EAL Plus will be found there.

I am looking forward to learning alongside each and every one of you this year!
