Parent Teacher Feedback Surveys Available Via PowerSchool
We are encouraging all parents to provide constructive, professional feedback to SAS teachers via the annual parent teacher feedback surveys.  This is an integral part of SAS’s vision to engage and support faculty in a unique professional learning community that provides opportunities to grow, develop and learn together. These surveys have been specifically designed to elicit information based on your first-hand experience with the teacher, and are connected to SAS’s Standards of Professional Practice. Click here to begin the survey process logging into PowerSchool at http://powerschool.saschina.org/ When you log-in you will find a Performance Evaluation Survey icon on the left to begin the process.

Friday’s Relay for Life was a Success!  Congratulations SAS Community!
Congratulations go out to everyone who pitched in to help make the April 22nd Rely for Life a success!  ES students and their families contributed to the day’s events by walking the track, creating touching luminary bags in honor of cancer heroes, purchasing lemonade from the ES Girl Scouts, and donating funds to cancer research.  Thank you goes out to our student leaders including the 5th grade Eagle Leaders (coordinated by Faith Ro and Martha Moselle) and the ES Girl Scouts (coordinated by Susan Sullivan and team of volunteers).

After School Activities Season III Continues
ASA Season III continues through to May 30th. Please visit the ASA blog at http://sites.saschina.org/pxesasa/ to learn more about the ASA program. Please contact us at Nathan.Heck@saschina.org or Ryan.Collier@saschina.org with any questions.

During the upcoming weeks, teams of teachers and counselors will begin creating class lists for the 2015-16 school year. When planning classrooms for next year the homeroom teachers and counselors will divide the children into balanced groups. Class lists will then be posted the afternoon before the first day of school (August 10, 2016).  Creating well balanced, heterogeneous classroom groups is our comprehensive goal at SAS. Some, not all, of the more important factors in creating that balance include:

  • balanced number of boys and girls
  • strong English skills vs. less developed English skills
  • a mix of students from varying academic levels
  • a good social blend of students
  • appropriate schedule accommodations for special services
  • representation from various nationalities
  • individual student issues

As all of our teachers are well-qualified and able to meet the needs of all students currently enrolled at SAS, we respectfully ask that parents do not make requests regarding a specific teacher.  All SAS students should be able to be successful in any one of our classroom communities.

As we want your child to flourish while attending Shanghai American School, your input as our partner in education is important.  If there is any important or relevant information that you think your classroom teacher or counselor may not have that you feel would be helpful to consider as we make placement decisions for next year, please pick up a ES Student Information for 2016-17 Classroom Placement Parent Form from the ES Office (or download it from here http://sites.saschina.org/espuxi/files/2016/04/Parent-Placement-Form-April-2016-PDF-1ehkemz.pdf) so it can be submitted to the ES Office prior to Friday, April 29, 2016.  The information you provide will be shared with the Classroom Placement Team which includes the current and future grade level teams, counselors, and administration.

We have an excellent teaching team and we will ensure that your child is placed into a well-balanced classroom. We will take into account the information you provide when placing your child, however the information provided does not guarantee placement in a particular teacher’s classroom.

Please mark your calendar on May 13th to come celebrate your child’s love for playing and spending time with you!!  This parent-child event is designed especially for fathers/father-figures/single-mothers and their elementary children to play together.  There will be many fun indoor and outdoor activities that you will get to explore.   Please keep a look out for the registration form that will contain all the important registration information.   If you have any questions, please speak to your counselor.

Looking for a new furry addition to your family? Shanghai American School’s Animal Welfare Society has got you covered!
The following animals are looking for homes:
Cookie – a 1 year old white Himalayan rabbit, toilet trained, kid friendly, and super sweet. She will follow you around like a little dog begging for treats, and her favorite toy is a plastic tunnel
Spring – a 1 month old kitten rescued when abandoned on the side of the road. She is nearly all recovered from a viral infection and in a couple of weeks will be good as new! She loves the company of humans and will constantly beg you for head scratches.
Mice (25) – Mr. Dubay from HS is looking to give away his mice. Adoptive families should treat the mice ethically as pets, and are asked to not use them as test subjects. Various colors, sizes, and genders available.
1 Month Bunny – White and furry with a black fur patch over her eye, she is super adorable and looking for a home
Puppy– Currently residing in Love Pet Family, this pup is brown, well-fed, and begging for attention.
More animals may be available on request, and more information on each animal (pictures, etc) can be given on request. Students interested in adopting or fostering any of the above should have permission from both parents, or else the adoption procedure will not go through.
